A few weeks ago I spent my Saturday getting my rockabilly on at the GreazeFest – Melbourne, 2015. I was invited by a dear friend of mine Shari, who introduced me to a world otherwise unknown to me! The GreazeFest is devoted to all things retro, rockabilly, kitsch and groovy. It was such a treat seeing the retro inspired outfits paraded around – you’d almost be forgiven for thinking you’d stepped back in time. The air was thick with hairspray holding up infinity victory rolls, lips were smacked with bright red lipsitck and there was enough grease in the men’s hair department to run a small car engine. Tongue in cheek aside, the event was a blast! I was in my element trying to capture it all.
The rockabilly community is such a warm open community. I found myself naturally drawn to interesting faces and cool characters, and everyone was so willing to let me photograph them. I was even lucky enough to meet and photograph the gorgeous Cherry Dollface! I also bumped into music photographer Ian Laidlaw sporting a very cool vintage polaroid camera! It’s events like these that really show me just how interesting people can be and fuel my desire to capture amazing faces. Below is a small collection of photos from the weekend, featuring some very cool cats!
