They say home is where the heart is. If that’s that case then I’m pretty far gone in love. Having moved to the Bellarine Peninsula, Victoria just over a year ago, I can’t see myself moving away anytime soon. I wake up every morning wondering how I managed to land in such a beautiful district. It was a real treat recently to show my mum and brother around my new home. We spent our weekend meandering down the Great Ocean Road visiting the twelve apostles, with the rest of our time taken up with exploring the sites of Geelong.
The Bellarine Peninsula and surrounding region is known for it’s outstanding food and drink. I took great pride in showing my mum and brother around my local haunts where we enjoyed all the best culinary delights. We feasted on gourmet lamb and duck followed by dessert works of art at Terindah Estate, Bellarine. We devoured a hearty breakfast at Driftwood Cafe, Ocean Grove on our way to the Great Ocean Road. Healthy green smoothies followed by asian ramen and beefy burgers were the go and at Winter’s Cafe on Pakington Street, Geelong – all the while appreciating one of my illustrations featured on the back of their menu! Sweet potato chips and macrame fish bowls delighted our senses at the fabulous King of the Castle Cafe followed by raw cacao chocolate and coconut milk latte’s to tickle our tastebuds at Bear and Bean Cafe, Central Geelong. And finally, champagne, beer and tapas to share was our final farewell treat at Little Creatures Brewery, South Geelong.
It was pretty special having my mum and brother visit. We ate ourselves stupid and laughed our way round the region. I look forward to the next visit where hopefully my dad can join us! Here’s to family and that happy place called “home”.
